Job title: SLCC Student, Workstudy, Specialist I, TRIO ETS College Bound (Part Time) Company: Salt Lake Community College Job description: A TRIO ETS College Bound Specialist will join the TRIO Program peer leadership team. This position will focus on work with students at target schools, 6th - 12th graders. They will serve as role models that will share best practices for success in school. Specialists will have a passion for K-12 education, pre-college programming, and sharing resources with students and families. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Assist in the outreach to students at target schools eligible for the SLCC TRIO ETS College Bound program. Responsibilities include data entry; creating posters, fliers, newsletters; presenting to students at target schools, teachers, parents, school counselors, and administrators; tutoring; and mentoring. Travel to target schools (Granger HS, Valley Jr, West Lake STEM Jr, West HS, Northwest Mid) is expected. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications • Current SLCC student with a current work-study package. • Must pass SLCC background check, as well as Granite and SLC School districts' background checks. • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required to be present at multiple schools and job sites. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures. Proper business English, including spelling, punctuation and grammar for reading, writing, and speaking skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suites. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Fluency in Spanish is helpful and useful. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Familiar with communities in the Rose Park area of Salt Lake City and West Valley City. • Understands obstacles prospective low-income and first-generation college students experience. -Familiar with the FAFSA and scholarship application process. • Familiarity with pre-college programs.-Communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with a wide range of diverse individuals.-Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, cultural competencies, and sensibilities. • Present in front of large audiences as well as provide one-on-one consultations. • Work collaboratively with others in the TRIO team, as well as our campus and community partners. • Organize, process and disseminate large amounts of information accurately. • Work well under pressure and function independently with integrity under minimal supervision. • Work a flexible schedule which may include mornings, evenings, and weekends. • Utilize basic computer operating systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and TRIO's student information system (i.e., StudentAccess). • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
