JOB PURPOSE: Provides application and technical leadership for the development and support of an application. The role has end to end responsibilities for an application including roadmaps, design, coding/configuring, upgrades, etc. Applies systems solutions to business/technical problems through customer interactions, and provides assistance to less experienced analysts in the design, programming, debugging, testing, and integration/implementation of complex, medium to large-sized information technology systems. JOB DUTIES: The Application Architect is responsible for application quality, performance, availability, scalability, and integrity. They manage all interactions with the application, utilize best practices and ensures application usability. Key areas of accountability include developing solutions for projects/programs and providing input into application evolution plans. Responsibilities include one or more of the following: Competent to code, develop systems solutions, and project management without close supervision; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work. Provides application/technical leadership, guidance, and assistance to other team members including the reviews of functional and technical designs to identify areas of risk and/or missing requirements. Works directly on complex application/technical problem identification and resolution, including responding to off-shift and weekend support calls. Develops major system modules, programs or integrates infrastructure components based on requirements gathered from customers. Performs integrated testing and customer acceptance testing of components that requires careful planning and execution to ensure timely, quality results. Fully knowledgeable of the relevant programming languages, application architecture, diagrams, system analysis techniques, testing, debugging, documentation standards, file design, storage and internal systems and cross platform infrastructure components; can provide training on these topics for others. Performs implementation and integration tasks for medium to large, complex in-house developed systems and/or purchased software solutions. Assists customers with documentation, training and usability efforts. Integrates processes across functional organizations. Participate in technology evaluation and recommendations. Assists in the development and alignment of the IT roadmaps to IT and Business strategy. Typical internal customers include employees within multiple business processes or functions. In addition, this person may have direct relationships with IT Supervisors, IT Managers, and, in some cases, Directors. External contacts include various companies who purchase services offered by Caterpillar and/or suppliers who provide hardware or software to Caterpillar. The position is challenged to identify problems quickly and correctly, including some which may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action with oversight as appropriate, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions. BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: Typically this position will require an accredited, four-year Information Technology degree, a closely related technical degree, or equivalent experience. At least 3 + years of AWS Cloud experience Progressively related experience of at least five to eight years. Expertise in AWS cloud architecture, software engineering, system integration, architecture modeling, application design, coding, security, data interchange, data management, network, database, servers, storage, collaboration or other technical areas. Experience in multiple business processes or organizations and experience in multiple IT disciplines is highly beneficial. Good technical, communication and influential skills are required. Adept at managing business change, project management methods and tools, migration planning, SLAs, etc. The preferred location is Houston TX, or Virginia Beach, VA, but remote work within the United States is available for the right candidate. #BI-Remote #LI-Remote Compensation & Benefits: Base salary for this role ranges from $104,112 to $156,168,. Actual salary will be based on experience.
