About the position Responsibilities • Transcribes, codes, types, and/or inputs dictations and demographics. • Transcribes and prioritizes dictations and complicated pathology consultation reports. • Produces final copy as required. • Responsible for filing and retrieving reports and/or slides. • Delivers slides to in-house physicians. • Maintains records and generates reports for problem billing cases. • Breaks down and mails/faxes reports to appropriate physicians and organizations. • Records faxing of reports to physicians and clinicians. • Gives verbal pathology results to physicians over the phone. • Researches pending and incomplete cases. • Generates and reviews reports and slides for outside physicians, making corrections as necessary. • Answers the telephone and handles direct patient and physician requests. • Responds to written correspondence from patients, insurance carriers, and physician's offices. • Independently resolves issues when necessary. • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors, managers, and physicians. • Informs the supervisor of problem cases and pending items on the desk. • Serves as backup to the sign-out clerk and special stain clerk if assigned. • Assists physicians with transcribing diagnoses onto protocols and pulls old slides and reports as requested. • Completes work within assigned time frames and ensures effective utilization of resources. Requirements • H. S. Diploma/GED • 1+ years of advanced clerical/secretarial experience in an office setting • Experience in a position performing related duties.
