Location: Remote | Type: Volunteer | Commitment: 5–10 hours/month Term: 6 months, with the option to extend upon organizational approval About Us: Native Americans in Higher Education and Mentorship (NAHEM) is a women-led nonprofit organization that empowers Indigenous communities through education access, mentorship, cultural preservation, and community-based solutions. We are seeking a dedicated Volunteer Grant Writer to help us secure funding that supports our youth programs, language revitalization efforts, and community outreach in California and Washington State. Role Overview: As a Volunteer Grant Writer, you will support NAHEM’s development team in identifying funding opportunities and drafting compelling proposals that align with our mission and goals. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to gain nonprofit experience, sharpen their writing skills, or give back to Indigenous communities through capacity-building work. Key Responsibilities: • Research and identify grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies • Write clear, persuasive, and tailored grant proposals and letters of inquiry • Collaborate with staff to gather program data, budgets, and narratives • Assist in tracking deadlines and submitting applications on time • Contribute to post-award reporting and funder correspondence when needed Qualifications: • Excellent written communication and research skills • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines • Familiarity with nonprofit or grant writing (experience is helpful but not required) • Interest in Indigenous education, cultural preservation, or community development • Ability to work independently and collaborate virtually with a small team What You’ll Gain: • Real-world grant writing experience with a growing nonprofit • Opportunities to build your portfolio and contribute to successful fundraising efforts • A flexible schedule and supportive team • Letters of recommendation and acknowledgement of service upon completion of term Term Details: This is a 6-month volunteer position with the option to recommit for an additional 6 months based on mutual interest and organizational needs.
