About the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is a vital part of the state's infrastructure, serving approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders, and over 8.4 million registered vehicles. Position Overview As a Part-Time Customer Service Technician, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional customer service, processing applications, and performing various DMV-related services. This is a wage position, limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12 months of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12 months. This wage position offers no state benefits. Key Responsibilities Communicate policies, procedures, and regulations to customers Issue IDs, process applications, and administer vision, driver, and in-car road tests Process diverse vehicle registrations, titling, tax and fee collection, and other DMV-related services Provide exceptional customer service and respond to customer inquiries Work effectively in a team environment and contribute to a positive and productive work atmosphere Utilize a personal computer or other automated systems to perform tasks and maintain accurate records Requirements and Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must possess the following qualifications: Customer service experience working in a fast-paced environment Experience using a personal computer or other automated systems Excellent oral and written communication skills Flexibility to work Monday through Friday and Saturday Strong organizational, time management, problem-solving, and multitasking skills Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to complete assignments on time Driving records should have a point balance of less than six demerit points and no major convictions Experience working in a team or group environment Ability to lift 10-25 pounds Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Previous experience working in a government agency or public sector Familiarity with DMV-related services and procedures Bilingual or multilingual skills Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits The Virginia DMV is committed to the growth and development of our team members.
