[ad_1] Remote Job Description Mainframe IMS programmerPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Mainframe IMS (Information Management System) Specialist to support, maintain, and enhance IMS environments running on IBM z/OS. The role involves working with both IMS DB (database) and IMS TM (transaction manager) to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of critical enterprise applications. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & DevelopmentDesign, develop, and maintain applications using IMS DB/DC, COBOL, PL/I, Assembler, JCL. Create and optimize IMS database structures (HDAM, HIDAM, HALDB, DEDB). Develop and maintain IMS transactions, message queues, and APIs. Implement and support integration with other mainframe subsystems (CICS, DB2, MQ, etc.). System Administration & SupportInstall, configure, and maintain IMS subsystems (DB, TM, BMPs, MPPs). Manage IMS utilities for database reorg, backup/recovery, and performance tuning. Monitor IMS logs, queues, and buffers to ensure optimal performance. Troubleshoot abends, system failures, and transaction issues. Performance & SecurityPerform IMS database tuning (buffer pools, locking, indexing). Ensure transaction throughput meets SLA requirements. Implement RACF and IMS security features for data protection. Participate in DR/BCP planning and testing for IMS systems. Collaboration & DocumentationWork closely with application developers, system programmers, and DBAs. Provide production support and on-call assistance for IMS-related issues. Document database schemas, transaction flows, and system procedures. Required QualificationsBachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).5+ years of experience in IMS DB/DC environments on IBM z/OS. Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, Assembler, PL/I, REXX. Strong knowledge of IMS database types (HDAM, HIDAM, HALDB, DEDB). Experience with IMS utilities (DFSORT, DBRC, IMS Connect, HALDB utilities). Hands-on experience with IMS TM (MPP, BMP, IFP regions, message queues). Preferred SkillsExperience in IMS modernization (APIs, SOA, integration with distributed systems). Knowledge of DB2, CICS, MQ, and interaction with IMS. Familiarity with automation, monitoring, and performance tuning tools. Exposure to DevOps, CI/CD, or modernization frameworks in mainframe environments. Soft SkillsStrong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work under pressure in mission-critical environments. Good communication and collaboration across technical teams.
