Job Summary The Manager of Data Science and Analytics will be a critical member of the Credit and Fraud Risk organization, responsible for developing and implementing investigations, models, and algorithms that power our customers' digital experiences. This role will involve working with large amounts of digital data, modern tools, and industry-leading big data environments to drive business insights and recommendations. The successful candidate will have a strong background in quantitative fields, such as computer science, statistics, or physics, and experience with modern scientific and AI techniques. Key Responsibilities Work with large amounts of digital data (Web, Application, API) and modern tools in an industry-leading big data environment Build NLP-driven solutions from identifying business problems to gathering training datasets, analyzing data, modeling, validating, and deploying NLP models Build everything from basic reports to advanced AI models and algos to drive improvements to our customers' online and mobile application experiences Collaborate with product owners to inform product and content design with a data-driven approach Work with tech partners to test, implement, and deploy modeling solutions to production systems Form insights into customer behavior and introduce new approaches to turn complex social data into meaningful information Leverage the power of closed-loop feedback through the Amex network to make more informed and relevant decisions Optimize with a focus on developing fresher and better methodologies using big data and AI solutions Essential Qualifications Master's or PhD in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Science, Physics, Operations Research, etc.) with hands-on experience using modern scientific and AI techniques PhD degree with practical experience in NLP is a significant plus Proficiency in a scientific language (Python, R, or equivalent), and experience with databases (Hive, SQL, or equivalent) Deep understanding of machine learning/statistical algorithms like deep learning and reinforcement learning Experience with data visualization is a plus Proven ability to approach business problems into mathematical programming problems, leverage outside thinking and tools (from academia or other industries) to design a solution, and deliver business insights Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a team environment with cross-functional colleagues around the world Independent thinker who is organized, has great attention to detail, and can multitask Strong interpersonal skills Ability to adapt quickly and work independently with complex, unstructured projects Proficient in presentation tools, including Excel and PowerPoint Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At American Express, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees.
