Position Summary The Senior Engineer Technician - Permits and Compliance will be responsible for reviewing, approving, processing, issuing, and inspecting work activities under permit to ensure compliance with agency standards and specifications. This includes: Reviewing and processing permit applications for private and commercial entrance permits, utility permits, and land use permits Conducting on-site inspections for subdivision and permit projects to ensure compliance with regulations and standards Reviewing site plans, special permits, rezoning requests, and land divisions to ensure compliance with agency standards Completing required paperwork to process permits and subdivision acceptance Meeting with applicants in the field to review project work zones and determine bond estimates Responding to citizen inquiries and concerns regarding permit-related issues Key Responsibilities As a Senior Engineer Technician - Permits and Compliance, you will have the following key responsibilities: Review and process permit applications to ensure compliance with agency standards and specifications Conduct on-site inspections to ensure permit work zones are designed and implemented properly Ensure traffic control is maintained according to guidelines Respond to citizen inquiries and concerns regarding permit-related issues Review and process new street additions and county bond projects and additions into the State Secondary System Complete required paperwork to process permits and subdivision acceptance Requirements and Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must have: Knowledge of highway construction and roadway maintenance procedures and land use permitting processes/procedures Ability to interpret VDOT Road and Bridge Standards and Specifications, VA Work Area Protection Manual, Access Management and Land Use Permit regulations, and Subdivision Street requirements Ability to read and interpret site plans, road construction plans, property plats, utility plans, and sketches Ability to obtain necessary Materials Certifications needed within 12 months of employment Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Ability to creatively resolve challenging complaints Skill in setting priorities and multi-tasking Skill in operating computers (MS Office preferred) Valid driver's license required Preferred Qualifications The following qualifications are preferred: Experience in roadway construction and maintenance activities Experience working with MUTCD, VA Work Area Protection Manual, Road Design Manual, VDOT Road and Bridge Standards and Specifications, Access Management Regulations and Land Use Manual Current possession of VDOT Material Certifications or ability to obtain certifications within 12 months in concrete/asphalt Experience with processing land use permit applications and street acceptance packages Intermediate Work Zone certification preferred What We Offer As a Senior Engineer Technician - Permits and Compliance with the Virginia Department of Transportation, you will have access to: A competitive salary range of $52,196 - $84,819 A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings, and paid time off Opportunities for professional growth and development A dynamic and supportive work environment Flexible work arrangements, including telework options Why Join Our Team?
