Studio and Gallery Programs offer a variety of hands-on methods within the Museum’s galleries, studios, and the community to respond to original works of art in the Museum’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. Taking direction from the Intergenerational Learning Specialist and the Studio and Gallery Programs Manager, the Part-time Teaching Artist will facilitate hands-on art making as a form of art appreciation and engagement. Responsibilities:Facilitate and/or teach art classes, workshops, and drop-in sessions for intergenerational visitors and students, both onsite at the MFAH and offsite in the community through the Glassell-on-the-Go program.. Collaborate with museum staff to develop content of classes, workshops, and art-making projects. Attend occasional docent and curatorial education sessions, learning about works of art in collections and exhibitions. This preparatory work may include the Part-time Teaching Artist’s own research about art and artists to enhance experiences for program participants. Reliability and promptness for programs, meetings, and training sessions. Courtesy and professionalism towards MFAH staff and the public. Fulfill other responsibilities as necessary. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of artistic processes, mediums, and art history. Excellent public speaking and teaching skillsEnthusiasm for engaging intergerational audiencesExcellent interpersonal skillsAbility to handle multiple projects simultaneouslyMust be able to work evenings and weekends as program schedule demandsReliable transportationEducation and Experience:B. A. in arts, education, or humanities, or B. F.
