As a Senior Editor at Disney Hyperion, you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, from acquiring and editing new titles to developing and implementing picture book strategy for our imprint. **Responsibilities** As a Senior Editor at Disney Hyperion, your key responsibilities will include: * **Managing key Disney Hyperion authors and a select list of inherited titles**: You will be responsible for nurturing and developing the careers of our key authors, as well as managing a select list of inherited titles to ensure their continued success. * **Strategically evaluating and acquiring submissions for the Disney Hyperion imprint**: You will work closely with our Editorial Director to shape and drive picture book strategy, identifying and acquiring submissions that align with our editorial vision. * **Participating in team intellectual property brainstorm meetings and editorial meetings**: You will be an active participant in our team's brainstorming sessions, sharing your expertise and insights to help shape the future of our list. * **Writing and revising proposals for new picture book programs, select middle grade and young adult fiction**: You will be responsible for crafting compelling proposals that showcase the potential of new titles and help drive our publishing strategy. * **Preparing acquisitions paperwork, including memos and profit and loss statements; tracking paperwork for approved projects through the acquisitions process; negotiating book deals, reviewing contracts**: You will be responsible for managing the administrative aspects of our acquisitions process, including preparing paperwork, tracking progress, and negotiating deals. * **Drafting fact sheets, catalog copy, bound galley copy, and jacket/cover copy**: You will be responsible for creating engaging and accurate marketing materials to promote our titles. * **Presenting titles at meetings including acquisitions, launch, and sales conference**: You will be an effective communicator and presenter, able to confidently pitch our titles to internal and external stakeholders. * **Developing and maintaining a strong list of agent, author, and illustrator contacts**: You will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key industry professionals, including literary agents, authors, and illustrators. * **Partnering closely with Content Packaging and Disney Entertainment teams on beyond the page opportunities**: You will work collaboratively with our Content Packaging and Disney Entertainment teams to identify opportunities for our titles to be adapted into other formats, such as film, television, or digital media. * **Providing guidance and support to junior staff members**: You will be a mentor and role model, providing guidance and support to junior staff members to help them develop their skills and advance their careers. **Essential Qualifications** To be considered for this role, you will need to have: * **6+ years experience in acquiring children's fiction properties, including structural and line editing expertise, and managing books through the production process**: You will have a proven track record of acquiring and editing children's fiction, with a strong understanding of the production process. * **Proven track record in developing and publishing commercial children's book intellectual property**: You will have a demonstrated ability to identify and develop commercial children's book properties that resonate with readers. * **Extensive editorial experience in picture books and illustrated children's book formats**: You will have a deep understanding of the picture book market and a proven track record of editing successful titles in this format. * **Excellent skills in author, agent, and illustrator relations**: You will be able to build and maintain strong relationships with key industry professionals, including literary agents, authors, and illustrators. * **Established relationships with literary agents, strong negotiation skills, and experience in redlining contracts**: You will have a strong network of literary agents and a proven ability to negotiate contracts. * **Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills**: You will be an effective communicator, able to craft compelling proposals, presentations, and marketing materials. * **Strong understanding of profit and loss statements**: You will have a solid understanding of the financial aspects of publishing, including profit and loss statements. * **In-depth knowledge of the children's book marketplace and youth media landscape**: You will have a deep understanding of the children's book market and the youth media landscape. * **Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines**: You will be able to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. * **Proficient in Word and Excel**: You will be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. * **Capable of working both independently and as part of a team**: You will be able to work independently, but also be a collaborative team player. **Preferred Qualifications** While not required, the following qualifications would be a plus: * **Strong understanding of current pop culture trends and youth media**: You will have a keen understanding of current pop culture trends and the youth media landscape. * **Proficiency in creating presentations using Keynote or PowerPoint**: You will be able to create engaging and effective presentations using Keynote or PowerPoint. **What We Offer** As a Senior Editor at Disney Hyperion, you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, develop your skills and expertise, and contribute to the creation of magical stories for the next generation.
