Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Commercial Trucking Insurance Underwriter/Broker to join our Transportation team. This role is responsible for evaluating, quoting, and managing new and renewal business within the commercial auto and trucking sector. The ideal candidate is capable of managing a high-volume workload while maintaining strong relationships with retail agency partners and carriers, making informed, data-driven underwriting decisions that align with strategic growth and profitability goals. Position ResponsibilitiesUnderwriting Risk AnalysisEvaluate new and renewal commercial trucking accounts—up to 40 per week—with premiums ranging from $50,000 to $100,000+Analyze risk using loss runs, MVRs, CAB reports, SAFER scores, FMCSA data, and other relevant underwriting materialsMake eligibility and pricing recommendations in alignment with underwriting guidelines and carrier appetitesProposal Preparation Market SubmissionPrepare comprehensive market submissions, quote proposals, and coverage comparisonsReview policies, binders, and endorsements for completeness and accuracy before client deliveryCarrier Client RelationsCommunicate effectively with retail agents and internal stakeholders to gather complete and accurate risk dataNegotiate with carriers to secure competitive terms, leveraging existing market relationshipsAccount Monitoring Policy ServicingTrack performance of bound accounts to identify profitability issues or loss trendsAddress billing, endorsement, cancellation, and invoicing issues in partnership with Premium AccountingClaims Compliance SupportEnsure prompt and accurate reporting of claims to the appropriate departmentsMaintain well-organized and compliant electronic documentation of all submissions and carrier communicationsCross-Department CollaborationPartner with actuarial, accounting, and risk management teams to support pricing strategy, auditing, and planningIndustry Awareness Administrative SupportStay up to date on industry trends, DOT/FMCSA regulations, and carrier appetite shiftsPerform administrative tasks such as document scanning, filing, and recordkeeping as neededMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, or a related field preferredMinimum 5 years of experience in commercial insurance underwriting or brokerage (trucking, commercial auto, or casualty lines preferred)Experience in both wholesale and/or retail brokerage settings Professional designations (e.g., CIC, CPCU, AU) strongly preferredActive Property Casualty license required; Surplus Lines license is a plusProficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of agency management systems (e.g., AMS360, IMS) a plusStrong analytical, communication, and time-management skillsSelf-motivated, able to work independently in a remote or hybrid environmentThe starting annual pay scale for this position is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on factors such as skills, qualifications, training, and experience.
