Position Overview The U. S. Border Patrol is hiring full‐time, entry‐level Law Enforcement Officers to join an elite team dedicated to protecting America’s borders. As a Border Patrol Agent, you will safeguard the nation by detecting and apprehending individuals involved in illegal border crossings and smuggling, while enjoying excellent pay, Compensation incentives, and outstanding federal benefits. Duty assignments may include the Southwest Border and relocation could be required. Key Responsibilities • Detect, prevent, and apprehend undocumented individuals and smugglers by maintaining surveillance from covert positions. • Respond to electronic sensor alarms and field evidence during night operations using specialized equipment. • Conduct aircraft sighting responses, anti-smuggling activities, and various patrols including traffic and ranch checks. • Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways utilizing a range of assets such as motor vehicles, horses, watercraft, and ATVs. • Travel occasionally as required to meet operational needs. Required Qualifications • Meet eligibility for the GL-5 grade level based on work experience, education, or a combination thereof. • For higher grade entry (GL-7, GL-9, GS-11), possess specialized or law enforcement/military experience. • Citizenship: Must be a U. S. Citizen. • Residency: Must have maintained primary U. S. residency for at least three of the last five years. • Adhere to age restrictions per law enforcement retirement provisions and successfully complete the Border Patrol Academy training. • Submit required documentation, including resume and transcripts, as part of the application process. Compensation, Benefits & Perks • Annual Base Salary: GL-5: $49,739–$61,833; GL-7: $56,623–$71,615; GL-9: $63,148–$81,480; GS-11: $73,939–$96,116. Note that duty location impacts pay rates, and fully trained agents may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay per BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. • Recruitment Incentives: Earn up to $30,000 in incentives – Newly appointed agents receive $20,000 ($10,000 upon training completion and $10,000 after a three-year service agreement), with an additional $10,000 for accepting prioritized locations. • Benefits: Enjoy federal employment benefits including comprehensive health and dental plans, a generous annual and sick leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan (a retirement plan similar to traditional and ROTH 401(k) options).
