ANYbotics is a fast-growing tech company dedicated to shaping the future of mobile robotics across multiple industries. Join our highly talented and motivated team of more than 190 people and work on cutting-edge robot technology. The OpportunityAs our Head of System Architecture, you will define and lead the technical blueprint for a family of robots, ensuring a scalable, modular, and future-proof system design. This role bridges hardware, software, autonomy, inspection, and safety to create diverse robotic platforms derived from a shared central architecture. By establishing and governing a modular system design, you will enable ANYbotics to address multiple operational design domains (ODDs) such as energy, utilities, oil & gas, and heavy industry while anticipating future business models and technologies. Market & Our TechnologyANYbotics is pioneering autonomous robotic platforms for industrial inspection and operation in challenging environments. From explosion-proof systems in oil & gas to agile scout robots in utilities, our platforms tackle the toughest tasks where safety and reliability are paramount. The System Architecture function is critical to ensuring that these diverse variants are all built on a shared, modular foundation—enabling speed, reusability, and interoperability. With your leadership, our platforms will not only serve today’s industries but also anticipate tomorrow’s needs, seamlessly integrating with external ecosystems such as fleet management, predictive maintenance, and digital twins. About UsANYbotics is a leading robotics company specializing in advanced autonomous systems. With a successful Series B financing round recently closed, we are poised for rapid growth and international expansion. Our mission is to revolutionize the robotics industry through cutting-edge technology and innovation. As we embark on this exciting journey, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Team Lead to join our team and help us shape the future of robotic Locomotion. Your Contributions Define and govern a modular, layered reference system architecture (perception, planning, control, actuation, payload, safety, HMI)Ensure the architecture is hardware-agnostic with clear interfaces to support multiple ODDsBuild a platform strategy where robot variants derive from the same central architectureDefine common modules for reuse and customizable modules for ODD-specific adaptationArchitect systems to anticipate future domains and emerging business modelsMinimize architectural changes when adding certifications, subsystem upgrades, or AI/ML improvementsEnsure the architecture integrates with external ecosystems such as fleet management and digital twinsPromote a single modular software backbone that scales across robot platformsDefine standardized interfaces, middleware, and data models (ROS 2 or custom frameworks)Implement configuration-driven builds to spin up new platforms quickly from shared modulesLead the creation of a platform-derivation process balancing reuse and hardware-specific plug-insEmbed certification and safety requirements into the architectural design processSupport the development of a unified simulation/test framework for multiple platform variantsEnable parameterized models for fast switching between robot configurationsLead trade-off studies to balance payload, agility, endurance, and safety across variantsMaintain architecture documentation and roadmaps for scalability and future-proofingEmbed diagnostics, safety, and over-the-air updates across all robot platforms Your Profile MSc in Systems Engineering, Electronics, Robotics, Computer Science, or related field10+ years in robotics or complex systems engineering5+ years in system architecture leadership in industrial environmentsProven track record architecting and scaling mobile robotic systemsExpertise in translating customer needs and technology capabilities into modular platform strategiesStrong knowledge of autonomy stacks (SLAM, navigation, motion planning, fleet coordination)Experience with real-time systems and middleware (e.g., ROS 2)Skilled in hardware/software co-design across sensors, actuators, compute, and powerExperience with safety and cybersecurity compliance in robotic platformsAbility to lead interdisciplinary teams and mentor engineersSkilled at aligning system architecture with business strategySystems thinker with a future-oriented mindsetComfortable with trade-offs and balancing innovation with product maturity Bonus Points Experience with Ex-certification or safety-critical robotic systemsFamiliarity with large-scale simulation environments and digital twin integrationTrack record of reducing time-to-market for robotic systems through platform reusabilityExperience embedding certification/safety pathways into architectural frameworks Additional Information We offer you a very exciting and dynamic work environment, the opportunity to become part of a fast-growing company and an ambitious team that is on a mission to change the industrial inspection market, a chance to leverage your experience and bring in your own ideas, a fair market salary, an attractive employee stock ownership plan, and a job in the city of Zurich.
