The Department of Health and Human Physiology, formed in 2010, has experienced significant growth and now boasts over 2200 undergraduate students, making it the largest undergraduate program on campus. The department offers six undergraduate majors, including BS in Exercise Science, BS in Human Physiology, BA in Health Studies, BS in Health Promotion, BS in Therapeutic Recreation, and a BS in Sport and Recreation Management. Job Summary and Key Responsibilities We are seeking an exceptional educator to teach undergraduate courses in the Human Physiology and Exercise Science degree programs. The successful candidate will have a strong background in teaching human anatomy, human physiology, and exercise physiology, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. The key responsibilities of this role include: Teaching undergraduate courses in human anatomy, human physiology, and exercise physiology Developing and designing curricula for undergraduate courses Supervising graduate teaching assistants or other instructors Participating in departmental meetings and contributing to the development of the department Mentoring and advising undergraduate students Engaging in discipline-appropriate professional societies and undergraduate science education initiatives Essential and Preferred Qualifications To be considered for this role, candidates must have: A Master's degree or PhD in exercise physiology, human anatomy, human physiology, kinesiology, exercise science, applied physiology, or a related field Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching as a primary instructor in human anatomy, human physiology, and/or exercise physiology Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Preferred qualifications include: A PhD in exercise physiology, human anatomy, human physiology, kinesiology, exercise science, applied physiology, or a related field Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching large enrollment courses at the collegiate level Experience teaching in an online format Previous supervision of graduate teaching assistants or other instructors Potential for excellence in teaching biomechanics and/or motor control at the collegiate level Previous 'laboratory' teaching experience at the collegiate level in two or more of the following areas: human anatomy, human physiology, exercise physiology, exercise testing, biomechanics, or motor control Skills and Competencies Required for Success To excel in this role, candidates must possess: Strong knowledge of human anatomy, human physiology, and exercise physiology Excellent teaching and communication skills Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to design and develop curricula for undergraduate courses Experience with undergraduate course design and/or development and support of curricular innovation Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits The University of Iowa offers a range of career growth opportunities and learning benefits, including: Professional development opportunities through the university's Center for Teaching and Learning Opportunities for collaboration with faculty members from diverse disciplines Access to state-of-the-art research facilities and equipment Support for attending conferences and workshops related to teaching and research A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off Work Environment and Company Culture The University of Iowa is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive work environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
