About the Role The Harvest New York Farm to Institution Program is seeking an experienced Farm to School Education Specialist to strengthen New York's food and farming industry and to increase school and institutional knowledge of New York's agriculture, food systems, and nutrition. As a key member of our team, you will deliver high-quality educational programs, workshops, and events on the benefits of healthy eating, identify model farm-to-school education programs that align with Harvest New York's goals, and develop innovative educational programs to meet changing local needs. Key Responsibilities Develop and deliver statewide education and marketing campaigns highlighting New York products. Create an evaluation framework for all farm-to-school educational efforts. Manage Harvest New York subcontracts to ensure farm-to-school educational activities adhere to goals. Analyze and evaluate collected program data. Create innovative educational programs to meet changing local needs. Support efforts in communication with stakeholders and partners through newsletters, quarterly reports, news releases, etc. Establish a social media presence highlighting Farm to School activities and events. Develop a competitive request that will identify organizations for Harvest New York to partner with in delivering farm-to-school education opportunities. What We Need We are looking for a talented individual who excels at building and maintaining effective relationships with multiple stakeholders. We need someone who appreciates agriculture and wants to increase the use of local farm products within New York State schools. In this role, you will work across New York State and contribute to multiple teams while developing your unique program. Essential Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Education, Nutrition, Food Studies, or closely related field. 3+ years of relevant work experience in educational program development, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement, teach, and evaluate informal educational programs. Proficiency with Windows-based software, including the Internet and Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work with diverse audiences in group and one-on-one settings. Ability to work effectively with advisory boards and committees, community-based organizations, and funding partners. Strong leadership and teamwork skills. Proven organizational and time-management skills. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate. Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the position, including having reliable transportation or having and maintaining a valid New York State driver's license. Must exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the University. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Agriculture, Education, Nutrition, Food Studies, or closely related field and 5+ years of relevant work experience in educational program development, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of Farm to School programs. Experience working with experiential learning programs. Demonstrated ability to plan, teach and evaluate informal educational programs through various delivery methods to reach individuals and groups. Experience working with community-based organizations, K-12 schools, and educating children in multiple settings. Demonstrated ability to function as a team member working with volunteers, staff, and community partners. Successful experience obtaining new funding, including grants and industry support. Appreciation of agriculture as a business and as a lifestyle. Ability to learn the philosophy, objectives, and operation of an informal education system such as Cornell Cooperative Extension.
