As a Remote Audio Operator I, you will play a critical role in providing sound blending and technical support for live events, studio productions, and pre-recorded material for the ESPN group of networks and distribution platforms. Job Overview In this role, you will be responsible for blending and monitoring all sound sources, including microphones, music, audio effects, and natural sound, to create an exceptional audio experience for ESPN's live events and productions. As a sound administrator (A1), you will work closely with the production team to ensure that all sound sources are properly set up and mixed to meet the highest standards of quality. Key Responsibilities Blend and monitor all sound sources, including microphones, music, audio effects, and natural sound, to create an exceptional audio experience for ESPN's live events and productions Determine the placement of microphones on the field of play to ensure optimal sound quality Direct all functional and technical aspects of assigned events, including sound mixing consoles, portable equipment, sound and video routing, digital audio delivery servers, microphones and IFBs, and their signal streams, mix minus, radio devices and software, broadcast switches, and more Measure sound signals to ensure quality control of ESPN adopted standards on all productions using thorough knowledge of broadcast techniques Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues using effective communication to best convey problems and solutions Responsible for the overall compound's sound sources and workflow, working with A2s in the compound, field, and booths as needed Guide A2s and set up the portable unit's communication system Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to have: At least 2 years of relevant distant production operations experience at the network level in an A1 role Ability to blend sound systems and 5.1 program feeds Proficiency in the use and reading of sound metering devices, including an Surround Sound Analyzer, Stage meter, and Noise Meters Strong knowledge of sound boards and consoles, sound signal flow concepts, radio systems, signal conversion equipment, and communication panels Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills using technical insight and solid technical tools to best convey issues and solutions Flexibility to travel and appear on Saturday or Sunday and events as schedule and show needs require Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Demonstrated strong knowledge of broadcast interchange equipment and remote production show needs Education A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this role.
