As a Staff Backend Engineer on the Viaduct team, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of our platform and enabling our Hosts and Guests to have a seamless and enjoyable experience. About the Role We're seeking an exceptional Staff Backend Engineer to join our Viaduct team and contribute to the development of our next-generation data access layer. Key Responsibilities Coding in high-impact, deep complexity domains, owning projects end-to-end, and driving them to completion Driving partnerships with tenant product teams to inform the tooling roadmap and ensure that our platform meets their needs Frequently working in vaguely scoped areas, responsible for defining project requirements for improving reliability and performance, through Viaduct framework changes and tenant-centric observability Developing technical expertise in various areas of the Viaduct framework, as well as with product teams' use cases and requests Collaborating with experienced teammates to enable Viaduct tenant engineers to be autonomous in identifying and resolving performance and cost inefficiencies within their code written in the Viaduct platform Supporting the customer base of Viaduct developers and providing guidance and expertise as needed Requirements and Qualifications To be successful in this role, you should have: 9+ years of work experience in a relevant engineering role, with a strong background in building scalable, efficient, and reliable systems Proficiency and interest in working cross-team with both product and infrastructure engineers, and a ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Experience operating critical online backend services, and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with building and maintaining large-scale systems Comfort shipping high-visibility, complex coding projects, and a willingness to take ownership of projects and drive them to completion Strong preference for expertise with GraphQL and Kotlin, although experience with other programming languages and technologies is also valuable What We Offer In return for your hard work and dedication, we offer a competitive salary range of $204,000-$259,000 USD, as well as a comprehensive benefits package that includes: Bonus and equity opportunities Employee Travel Credits Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) matching and retirement savings plan Flexible paid time off and holidays Access to a wide range of learning and development opportunities, including conferences, training sessions, and online courses Our Commitment to Inclusion and Belonging Airbnb is committed to working with the broadest talent pool possible, and we believe that diverse ideas foster innovation and engagement.
