About the Role As an Instructor, Children's Literature and Reading Methods & Interventions at WGU, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational journey of our students. This full-time remote position requires a strong foundation in children's literature and reading methods, along with the ability to adapt instructional practices to meet the diverse needs of adult learners. You will be responsible for developing engaging instructional materials, delivering virtual instruction, and providing one-to-one coaching to help students achieve their academic and professional goals. Key Responsibilities Develop high-quality instructional materials aligned with course competencies and learning objectives, catering to both self-service use and virtual one-to-many events. Deliver effective, relevant, and engaging virtual events that support student learning and achievement. Continuously update knowledge, skills, and expertise through active participation in faculty learning communities and other developmental opportunities. Provide proactive, timely, and effective one-to-one virtual instruction to students, addressing their unique needs and fostering a supportive learning environment. Facilitate online student communities to encourage peer collaboration, effective faculty interaction, and student development. Offer student-centered coaching to help students achieve personal, academic, and career goals, adapting instructional practices as needed. Utilize data and student insights to identify those in need of proactive support, tailoring outreach efforts accordingly. Perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the team. Essential Qualifications and Skills To excel in this role, you must possess: A terminal degree (Doctorate) from an accredited institution, with a focus on a relevant field. A minimum of 3 years of K-12 teaching experience, demonstrating a strong background in children's literature and reading methods. Subject-matter expertise in the assigned content area, with the ability to develop instructional materials and deliver virtual instruction. Strong knowledge of how student characteristics interact with different learning needs, allowing for tailored instructional approaches. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to moderate online student communities and encourage engagement. The ability to analyze student data and learning behaviors to identify individual needs and provide targeted support. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, valuing diverse perspectives and experiences. Flexibility in adjusting instructional approaches to meet the needs and preferences of individual students. Strong active listening skills and emotional intelligence, enabling the building of strong relationships with adult learners. A solid understanding of coaching strategies to support personal, academic, and professional development. Proficiency in developing visually engaging, accessible presentation materials and learning facilitation experiences. Preferred Qualifications While not mandatory, the following qualifications are highly valued: Completion of LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) or possession of a Science of Reading credential.
