Job Summary This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accurate and timely collection, abstraction, and reporting of healthcare quality data for HEDIS measures. This position requires strong leadership, organizational, and analytical skills to oversee a team of abstraction specialists and ensure compliance with HEDIS specifications and regulatory requirements. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Supervise and manage a team of HEDIS specialists, providing guidance, support, and training as needed. Coordinate and oversee the HEDIS process, ensuring adherence to established protocols, timelines, and quality standards. Conduct regular reviews and audits of HEDIS data activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency. Monitor and track HEDIS performance measures and outcomes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary. Stay abreast of changes in HEDIS specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices, and ensure compliance with all relevant guidelines. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment within the HEDIS team, promoting professional growth, development, and teamwork. Supervisory Responsibilities The supervisory responsibilities typically involve overseeing and managing a team of abstraction specialists tasked with collecting, abstracting, and reporting healthcare quality data for HEDIS measures. Has the responsibility to complete performance evaluations, coaching and mentoring. The supervisory responsibilities include: Team Management: The HEDIS supervisor is responsible for the overall management of the HEDISteam, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management of team members. This involves setting clear expectations, providing ongoing feedback, and fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Workflow Coordination: The supervisor coordinates the workflow of the abstraction team to ensure that tasks are completed accurately and on time. This may involve assigning work, prioritizing tasks, and reallocating resources as needed to meet deadlines and quality standards. Compliance Monitoring: The supervisor monitors compliance with HEDIS specifications, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies and procedures. They ensure that the team follows established protocols and guidelines to maintain data integrity and confidentiality. Performance Improvement: The supervisor identifies opportunities for performance improvement within the Quality team and implements strategies to address them. This may involve providing additional training, implementing process improvements, or developing best practices to optimize performance and efficiency. Professional Development: The supervisor supports the professional development of the team members by providing opportunities for training, skill development, and career advancement. They encourage continuous learning and growth within the team to enhance performance and job satisfaction. Overall, the supervisory responsibilities of a HEDIS supervisor are critical for ensuring the accurate and efficient collection of healthcare quality data, ultimately supporting the organization's efforts to improve patient outcomes and quality of care. Education & Experience Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare quality management, with specific experience in HEDIS abstraction and reporting. Strong knowledge of HEDIS measures, specifications, and technical requirements. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. Proficiency in data analysis, interpretation, and reporting using healthcare information systems and software. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certification preferred. Education Requirements Required/Preferred Education Level Discipline Required Undergraduate Degree Knowledge, Skills & Proficiencies Ability to evaluate medical records with attention to detail. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be a reliable team player committed to working in a quality and customer centric environment. Will require daily interaction in person, on the phone, and via email. Superior customer service skills: demonstrate responsiveness, depth of knowledge and thoroughness in handling and responding to inquiries from patients and team members. Ability to make formal presentations in front of committee and work group environments as needed. Ability to use databases and prepare reports as needed. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Experience in teaching health care providers, clinical and non-clinical staff. Proficiency in the use of computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and EHR systems. Physical Requirements This position works under usual office conditions. The employee is required to work at a personal computer as well as be on the phone for extended periods of time. Must be able to stand, sit, walk and occasionally climb. The incumbent must be able to work extended and flexible hours and weekends as needed. Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
