About the Role As a Staff Software Engineering Manager at YouTube, you will play a critical role in leading our engineering teams to develop innovative solutions that delight our users. Design and Guide Systems: Design, guide, and vet systems designs within the scope of your team, and write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems. Code Review and Feedback: Review code developed by other engineers, provide feedback, and ensure that best practices are followed. Performance Management and Coaching: Set clear expectations with individuals, meet regularly to discuss performance and development, and provide feedback and coaching to help them grow. Qualifications and Requirements To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for innovation and collaboration. Here are some of the key qualifications and requirements: Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree: A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Software Development Experience: 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript). Technical Leadership Experience: 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role, overseeing strategic projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management or supervision/team leadership role. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree or PhD: A master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field. Experience in a Complex Organization: 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
