As an Environmental Program Manager, you will play a critical role in managing environmental due diligence, permitting acquisition and approvals, and compliance activities during site acquisition, design, and construction for datacenter development throughout the Americas. Job Summary The Environmental Program Manager will be responsible for driving cross-team delivery in environmental due diligence, permitting acquisition, and compliance for datacenters to allow for the construction and delivery of our critical infrastructure. This role requires regular engagement with key Microsoft stakeholders, including legal, design, construction, and operations teams, regulatory agencies, and outside consultants and contractors. Key Responsibilities Environmental Risk Management: Manage environmental risk evaluations, permitting, approvals, and consent activities for existing and new datacenter and associated infrastructure development for sites. Environmental Due Diligence: Conduct environmental due diligence and risk assessment during site acquisition, including Environmental Site Assessments, soil and groundwater investigations, Air Quality and Permitting reviews, regulatory and permitting evaluations, and biological, ecological, and cultural resource evaluations and surveys. Environmental Consultant Management: Manage environmental consultants for the delivery of environmental approvals and consents, due diligence assessments, risk evaluations, and biological, ecological, and cultural resources evaluations, surveys, and reports. Remediation Strategies: Develop remediation strategies, approvals, and oversight of completion of any remedial actions required prior to site pre-positioning and/or construction. Environmental Permitting: Identify environmental permitting requirements and develop delivery strategies, including environmental mitigation, in coordination with design, construction, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), operations, and permitting teams to meet required timelines. Regulatory Agency Engagement: Support regulatory agency, stakeholder, and community engagement activities and negotiations for new builds and existing facilities. Environmental Compliance: Manage environmental compliance planning and execution for pre-positioning, construction activities, and operational turnover. Land Development and Environmental Strategy: Support the further development of the land development and environmental strategy and policy programs to support datacenter development and operations. Technical Expertise: Leverage technical expertise to provide support to internal Microsoft stakeholders during development of new initiatives and programs. Team Communication: Facilitate team communication of land development and environmental requirements to diverse internal stakeholders, including legal, end-to-end, land acquisition, land development, energy, design, construction, operations, community development, CELA, and sustainability teams. Requirements and Qualifications Essential Qualifications Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree or degree equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or program management. Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience in environmental program management, or 5+ years of experience in environmental and civil engineering. Project Management: 2+ years of project or people management experience. Cross-Functional Projects: 1+ year of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects. Environmental Permitting: 4+ years of experience in environmental permitting, including environmental impact assessments, permit acquisition, new region regulatory reviews, cultural and ecological surveys and approvals, environmental due diligence, and risk assessments. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Mission Critical Facilities: Experience with mission critical facilities or large-scale construction projects. Environmental Compliance: Experience in construction and operational environmental compliance and experience working through environmental permitting in multiple markets. Specific Knowledge: Specific knowledge of environmental permitting programs and requirements, including air quality, threatened and endangered species, USACE/404 permitting, SPCC, cultural resources, etc. Remedial Investigations: Working knowledge of remedial investigations, remediation strategies and execution, site conceptual models, and site management plans. S. is USD $91,800 - $178,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $117,900 - $195,000 per year.
