We are on the hunt for a talented Electrical Engineer with a specialization in electrical power systems, a passion for emerging technology, likes to take on challenges, and would love to join Kepler’s Electrical team. Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and support the electrical power systems for Kepler’s current and next generation of satellites including:Battery pack architecture and BMS including battery cell evaluation and power modelingSolar-array battery charging regulator systemsPower-tree design support for electrical sub-systems ownersOwn new designs from start to finish or iterate on existing designs based on new feature requests, lessons learnt, and DFx (DFA/DFM/DFT)Work closely with other cross-functional engineering teams including systems, RF, mechanical, software, and FPGA to develop full product solutionsFollow relevant internal and external “electrical design-for-space” standards to ensure the long term reliability of PCBAs in critical low-earth orbit missionsParticipate in and drive design reviewsCreate and own the execution of design validation test plans for new power components and systemsPerform functional and performance testing on individual boards or integrated sub-systems as part of bring up and design validation/verification including accelerated lifetime testing where needed Required Skills & Qualifications: 5+ years of post-undergrad electrical hardware design experience with a strong focus on battery system design and electrical power systemsBachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalentExperience in Lithium-ion battery pack construction sizing, balancing, protection, coulomb counting, and thermal managementStrong understanding of power technologies including discrete and integrated switch mode power suppliesExtensive experience in designing and executing qualification test plans for battery and power systemsStrong communication skills and the ability to put together thorough design documentationCircuit and layout simulation experience (SPICE or comparable)Experience with or an understanding of the LEO environment for power electronics (e.g. radiation effects)Experience with one or more CAD tools (Altium, Allegro, KiCad, etc.)Understanding of PCB design principles for signal and power integrity as well as thermal management under vacuum. Highly proficient in a lab environment and experience using standard tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, VNA’s, etc. Bonus Points: Experience with Space Power Systems, ESA, ECSS and/or NASA standardsExperience with solar panel systemsPython scripting experienceUsage of AI-tools Additional Information Use of AI in RecruitmentAt Kepler Communications, all hiring decisions are made by people.
