As a Pre-Admission Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing telephone-based nursing services, information, and education to adult and pediatric patients (and/or their families) scheduled for elective surgical procedures prior to their entry to the hospital. Key Responsibilities As a Pre-Admission Nurse with our team, your primary responsibilities will include: Providing telephone-based care to pediatric and adult patients from culturally diverse populations who are having elective surgeries on the East and West campuses of the U of MN Medical Center and U of MN Masonic Children's Hospital. Assessing patient needs and developing an individualized nursing plan of care that addresses their unique physical and psychosocial needs. Coordinating nursing care with the care of all other health team members, including physicians, outside clinics and agencies, and internal departments. Initiating age and culturally appropriate measures to meet patient needs, including patient/family teaching as appropriate to age. Collaborating, consulting, or making referrals if unable to perform independently, ensuring that all actions are based on scientific, ethical, or ecological principles, proven effectiveness, practice standards, patient/family requests and values, or legal parameters. Communicating verbal and written information in a clear, concise, accurate, and timely manner, using communication strategies appropriate to patient/family needs for information, education, and support. Demonstrating ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. Completing all initial and annual required learning relevant to the role, and complying with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies. Contributing to a team-oriented work environment, and maintaining a clean, safe, and professional remote workspace. Requirements and Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: Essential Qualifications: A minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in perianesthesia nursing, with proficiency in assessing the physical and psychosocial needs of a culturally diverse patient population. Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to exercise professional judgment. Computer knowledge and skills, with the ability to maintain an internet connection consistent with Fairview standards at remote workspace. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
