Job Overview As a Transcriptionist / Pathology / Teamsters JH, you will play a vital role in our collaborative team, transcribing dictation by pathologists and histology staff regarding the gross and microscopic descriptions and diagnoses of anatomic pathology specimens. This position requires a strong foundation in medical transcription, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. You will also function in a clerical capacity, performing various administrative tasks to support the pathology team. Key Responsibilities Transcribe medical dictation and clinical information with high accuracy, utilizing word processing, dictation, and transcription equipment as directed. Utilize the laboratory information system and hospital information system to access and manage patient data. Use Microsoft Office products to complete miscellaneous clerical tasks, including memos, procedures, spreadsheets, and other documents. Answer and screen phone calls, providing excellent customer service and responding to inquiries in a professional and courteous manner. Prepare packets for slide send outs and documents slide returns, ensuring timely and accurate processing of pathology specimens. Prepare surgical pathology cases for review by visiting house physicians, ensuring that all necessary materials are available and organized. Print demographic sheets for billing purposes and send outs, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records. Complete all manual departmental filing, retrieves reports from microfiche and pathology archives, and maintain organized and accessible files. Distribute final anatomic pathology reports by fax, mail, or hand delivery to patient charts, doctors, or appropriate locations, ensuring timely and secure transmission of sensitive information. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: An Associate's degree in medical transcription, medical assistant, or medical secretary, or a high school diploma with equivalent job-related work experience of 2-3 years in medical transcription (preferably pathology). Prior job-related work experience of 2-3 years in medical transcription (preferably pathology), with the ability to type and transcribe 65 wpm with high level of accuracy. MS Word skills and proficiency in utilizing word processing, dictation, and transcription equipment. Preferred Qualifications While not required, we prefer candidates with: CMT certification, demonstrating expertise and commitment to the field of medical transcription. Skill and Competencies To excel in this role, you will need to possess: Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high accuracy in transcription and clerical tasks. Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interact with healthcare professionals, patients, and families in a professional and courteous manner. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
